The Australian drinking landscape has never been more diverse or exciting, but where do you start? Bending the elbow with one of Australia’s best drinks communicators in a relaxed setting is a good place to start.
Writer. Presenter. Natural wine and food festival organiser. Newly-minted bottleshop owner. Mike Bennie is a man that wears many baseball caps. As part of this year’s Gourmet Escape, the passionate Sydney-based hospitality figure is sharing his passion for beverages at the Theatre of Drinks, a new feature at Gourmet Village.
Each day, Bennie and various industry experts will be exploring the wide world of drinks in a casual, relaxed setting. In addition to shining a spotlight on his favourite winemakers of the moment, Bennie will also be taking the discussion beyond the wine fridge and looking at everything from new-wave vermouth, the avant garde of spirits and distillers through to brewers making Friday knock-off drinks more exciting than ever.
Although each 30-minute session is being pitched as a masterclass, the format is anything but formal with sessions designed to encourage conversation and learning – this is a casual, fun and exciting space to taste, drink and learn. Entry is $15 on the door and include tastings and expert commentary.
