Biography

Brenton Pyke is the owner of Market Eating House, Right On Burgers and Market On The Road (Catering).

Brenton began his career here in Bunbury with David Lonsdale from Lonsdale Party hire.His first foray into the hospitality industry was washing dishes which then turned into a cooking apprenticeship resulting in David’s encouragement to move to Perth to pursue his chosen career further. It was in Perth that Brenton finished his apprenticeship under the tutelage of a very traditional French chef at the Duxton Hotel which was, at the time, a high-end dining establishment. After this cooking took Brenton on some overseas adventures before settling into his first Head Chef role at ‘Just Tapas’ where he started becoming noticed. His next role was as Head Chef of Andaluz Bar & Tapas, one of the first small bar licenses granted in the Perth CBD back in 2009 where he received national recognition for his innovative menu. From here Brenton was recruited to be the head chef of the relaunch of one of George Calombaris’ (of MasterChef fame) restaurants called The Little Press in Melbourne where he spent two years working within one of Australia’s largest restaurant groups at the time. Before moving to Bunbury Brenton was managing a restaurant in North Fremantle called Habitué along with his wife Bec where they were lucky enough to have the freedom to create a style of food and service that they could be proud of which in turn  gave them the confidence to open a venue of their own in Brenton’s hometown of Bunbury.

Market Eating House opened in November 2015 and it has been instrumental in changing the face of Bunbury dining through the consistently high standard of food, service and hospitality that they have become known for. Market has also helped to put Bunbury on a national stage through the inclusion in the Gourmet Traveler restaurant guide three years running, as one of the top ten restaurants in regional Western Australia.

More recently in May of this year, Bec and Brenton opened their second venture, Right On Burgers, located in the Grand Cinema Complex. They have also recently launched the catering division of Market Eating House, Market On The Road which has taken off to a flying start with booking well into next year for a range of different events such as corporate parties, weddings and smaller high-end dinner parties.

It has been a whirlwind three years in business for Bec and Brenton Pyke and all of this has been accomplished whilst raising their two children, Bailey (3) and Georgia (1). Whilst it’s not always easy to find the balance between business and family life, Bec and Brenton feel very fortunate to be a part of such a supportive and encouraging community that is Bunbury.
