Biography

In 1986 Carlo began his professional career with Gualtiero Marchesi in Milan, the first Italian restaurant to reach three Michelin stars. Later Cracco worked at the “Meridiana” in Garlenda (Savona), a Charming Hotel in the Relais & Chateux chain in Savona. He moved to France for 3 years where he had the opportunity to learn the secrets of French cuisine under the guidance of Alain Ducasse (Hotel de Paris) and Lucas Carton (Senderens, Paris). After these experiences, Cracco returned to Florence in Italy where he became the first chef at Enoteca Pinchiorri. During his time there, he quickly obtained three Michelin stars.

Gualtiero Marchesi called on him for the opening of his restaurant “L’Albereta” in Erbusco (Brescia), where Cracco worked as chef for three years. Immediately after this experience he moved to Piedmont where he opened the restaurant “Le Clivie” in Piobesi d’Alba (Cuneo) where, after only one year, he earned a Michelin star.

A few years later he accepted the invitation of the Stoppani family, owner of PECK (one of Milan’s most famous gastronomy shops since 1883), to become Executive Chef of Cracco-Peck restaurant. The restaurant has been open since 2001, in an elegant building in the center of Milan, and has earned a number of accolades including two Michelin stars, 18.5/20 for Espresso, 3 forks for Gambero Rosso and in 2007 was named one of the 50 best restaurants in the world.

In July 2007 Carlo Cracco became Chef Patron of the Cracco Restaurant. In 2012 his collaboration with Singapore Airlines began and sees Chef Cracco take care of the creation of the business and the first class menus.

Today Cracco plays the role of president of the Maestro Martino Association, a non-profit association whose main objective is to promote the cuisine of the author and the excellence of the territory. For years he has been an advocate for and collaborated with IFAD, a specialized UN agency that deals with increasing agricultural activities, enabling poor rural populations to achieve greater food security, improve the quality of their food and strengthen their own adaptability.

In February 2014, Carlo Cracco opened “Carlo e Camilla in Segheria”, a bistro and cocktail bar that was named the world’s best Wallpaper restaurant in 2015. Carlo Cracco was also appointed Ambassador of the Lombardy Region for Expo2015.

In 2016 Cracco opened Ovo by Carlo Cracco in Moscow, a gastronomic restaurant within the Sud Koreano group, Lotte and in 2017 he opened Garage Italia with Lapo Elkann in Milan, inside a service station, where the restaurant and automotive worlds come together.

In February 2018 the Cracco Restaurant moved to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan. 1200 square meters divided over several floors including a cellar containing over seven thousand bottles, Cafe Cracco on the ground floor and the Gastronomic Restaurant Sala Mengoni on the first floor.
