AGWA has relaunched with the new AGWA Rooftop and The View From Here, the Gallery’s largest-ever exhibition of Western Australian art with 30 major new commissions, exhibitions and acquisitions by leading Western Australian artists and creatives.

The exhibition captures the perspectives of a diverse group of artists, from the state’s renowned and iconic western desert and Kimberley artists to emerging artists—many from non-traditional arts backgrounds—to established Western Australian artists.

The new AGWA Rooftop has incredible 360 skyline views, a sculpture walk, and the stunning 34-metre light-based artwork Targets by Christopher Pease. Featuring food and beverages with a distinct WA flavour, enjoy a sunset drink over the weekend taking in the city views and sculpture park with sounds by local DJs. Margaret River HEART has curated a stunning selection of French films to satiate the Francophiles among us. Taking place over a week in October, it includes pioneer of the 1960’s French New Wave film movement Jean-Luc Godard’s ‘Breathless’, which has been painstakingly restored in 4k for its 60th anniversary. Another highlight is ‘Eiffel’ which follows the story of engineering genius Gustave Eiffel in the late 19th century, and the passion and brilliance behind his design of one of the world’s most recognisable landmarks.

Howard Park is West Australia’s “House of Sparkling”, a pioneering family-owned winery specialising in the state’s premier grape-growing regions of Margaret River and the Great Southern. Having just celebrated their cellar door’s 20th anniversary, Howard Park also offer a range of private wine tastings in their stunning Wine Chapel. Their newest offering, a Sparkling Wine Lounge Experience is Margaret River’s only méthode traditionnelle tasting experience and a must for sparkling lovers.

WHALE WATCHING

The whale-watching season in WA’s South West region is one of the longest in the world, spanning from May to early December each year. There are about 30,000 humpbacks, southern right (and sometimes blue) whales that swim past the south west corner of WA annually, as they make their way north in search of warmer waters to calve. Currently they are making the return trip to Antarctica, and are hugging close to the coast around Busselton and Dunsborough from now until December. You can easily spot them from the shore, but for a more intimate experience, there are several tour companies that run daily tours (weather dependent) during the season, allowing you to get up close with these gentle giants of the deep. Tours operate from Dunsborough or Busselton from September to early December.

WILDFLOWERS

WA’s South West region is currently bursting into colour, with more than 8,000 species of wildflowers and 300 species of delicate orchids blooming across the region from now until November. For some of the best wildflower spotting in the Margaret River region, head out to the coast and take a walk along the Cape to Cape Track starting at Cape Leeuwin, the meeting point of the Southern and Indian oceans. This trail has spectacular coastal scenery, fascinating geology and sensational coastal scenery, fascinating geology and sensational wildflowers such as Vanilla Orchids, Wisteria, Clematis, Coastal Pimelea and Fan Flowers. There are plenty of other opportunities to spot wildflowers along the coastal walking tracks, rivers, forests and around the caves. Or better still, take a wildflower tour.

His apprentices are Mirko Piras, a young man born with Down syndrome, who dreams of becoming a great chef ‘just like Antonio’ and Jessica Berta, an ambitious waitress who’s also set her sights on a career among the pots and pans. Their tiny kitchen is the beating heart of a revolutionary restaurant and hotel like no other. Both are staffed by young men and women living with Down syndrome, who come from across Italy to train and work in hospitality, so they can take their place at the table of life.

Chef Antonio’s Recipes for Revolution, is their closely observed story, told in first person by Antonio, Mirko and Jessica. It’s a journey through their lives and loves, dreams and dramas.

Cluedunnit’s murder mystery dinner theatre shows are some of the best and longest established in the world. The shows feature a cast of professional actors in 1930’s period costume, bringing variety and spontaneity to each show. The action and clues flow thick and fast, and the performance is continuous.

Guests will be sat at a round table seating 10 and are invited to dress in the style of the period as they work together to solve the mystery.

EPOCH BREAKFAST & HIGHLIGHTS TOUR

Join the WA Museum Boola Bardip for the Epoch breakfast and highlights tour. You will enjoy a delicious breakfast at Epoch café before exploring the museum. Tours run every Friday from 10am-12pm at $35 per person.

After breakfast, you will be taken on an entertaining Highlights Tour of WA Museum Boola Bardip. At the conclusion of the tour, you are welcome to further explore the museum at your leisure.
